May 17, 2000 Important information for travelers.

Traveling through Belarus - Transit visa will be required starting May 1, 2000

March 13, 2000, the authorities of the Republic of Belarus suspended the Clause of the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Visas, which allowed foreigners (non-CIS citizens) to travel through Belarus without transit visa, provided they had visa(s) of any other CIS country(ies)*. The Agreement was signed in Moscow in November, 1992 by all CIS states.

Starting May 1, 2000, all non-CIS citizens will be required to apply for Belarusian transit visas at Belarus' embassies and consulates when traveling through Belarus. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry gives no indication of whether the suspension will be permanent or temporary.

* CIS (The Commonwealth of Independent Sates) also known as NIS (Newly Independent States) includes all member republics of the former Soviet Union, except Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

Recent Media Coverage of Average Citizens Initiative

Solo - Belarusian Internet review, January 18, 2000. И теперь снова про Минск - тема, надо полагать, будет неисчерпаема, когда и инетчики объединятся. "Belarus Home". И имя классное и содержание - на уровне, вот только на-бела-русс-ком бы языке. Или вы все с английским дружите? Тогда, следующая встреча на сленге.
...Just a couple of words, but still a pleasure.
